AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin Police Department announced Thursday evening that it arrested a man accused of killing a woman whose body was found in north Austin on Monday.
APD identified the woman as Mary Gonzales, 43. Her body was found near the 8200 block of Research Boulevard, on the northbound side, around 7:40 a.m. Monday.
Enrique Gomez-Urbina, 21, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the Gonzales' death, according to APD.
Enrique Gomez-Urbina, 21. (Austin Police Department mugshot)APD told media outlets that when officers arrived at the scene Monday morning, they saw “obvious trauma” to the woman’s body. A resident in the area told APD they heard a “pop” Sunday night or early Monday morning.
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Gonzales on Wednesday. A warrant was issued for Gomez-Urbina the same day.
