ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Frost Advisories remain in effect Thursday night into Friday morning, with patchy to widespread frost possible away from the immediate Lake Ontario shoreline as temperatures dip into the 30s for another night. Despite the chilly start to the day Friday, we will warm nicely back into the mid 60s under a mostly sunny sky. Some high clouds will begin to move in later in the afternoon and evening as an upper level low approaches from Canada.
The weekend forecast has quite a bit of uncertainly regarding whether or not we’ll stay dry. This is due to that Canadian low moving in from the west, and a developing Nor’easter moving up the east coast of the U.S. Initially, the placement of the Canadian low to our west will dictate whether we get any rain on Saturday. At this point, the best chance of rain is closer to Buffalo, but that is a forecast that could very easily change with a slight shift in the track of the low. Meanwhile, the coastal low will begin to strengthen and move up the coast. These two systems will eventually merge, bringing a better chance of rain later Sunday and into Monday, but especially in the Finger Lakes and areas south and east. Check back in online and watch News10NBC for further updates as new data comes in regarding the weekend. At this point, any rain we get wouldn’t be a washout, but would actually help our drought situation.
The latest update of the drought monitor shows the “Severe Drought” conditions have expanded further into the Finger Lakes region. The little bit of rain we’ve had over the last few weeks certainly helps to green things up, but we need more consistent and soaking rains to really start to alleviate the drought conditions. So, some weekend rain wouldn’t be the worst news for dry conditions, but of course we’d love to have dry weather for outdoor plans.
