ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The USA Olympic bobsled team has a better chance at winning a medal this year, thanks to support from Rochester.
Rochester Entrepreneur Phil Saunders paid for the team’s new bobsled. The team’s performance had been affected by their outdated sled, but they are now ready to compete with the new one. At Saunders’ request, the bobsled features Kodak’s logo.
“This is the kind of people we want to see from our country in Europe and around the world representing us,” Saunders said. “So even if you don’t make the podium, they will do a great job representing the United States.”
Boone Niederhofer, a member of Team USA bobsled, said they think the new bobsled will help their performance.
“In worlds this past year, we were in one of the older sleds in the field and we still managed to finish fourth and we think this will be the difference between us being 4th and us being in the medals.”
At a news conference Thursday, the historic “Tyler Sled” was also on display. This sled won the bronze medal at the 1956 Winter Olympics and was designed and raced by two Kodak engineers.
