Aubrey Plaza is still very close to one of her co-stars.
On her appearance on The View on Wednesday morning, the actress went on the daytime talk show to discuss her new animated series, Kevin, the message behind her latest children's book, Luna and the WitchThrow a Halloween Party and her close friendship with her Agatha All Along co-star and Broadway icon Patti LuPone.
LuPone and Plaza first met on the set of Marvel's Agatha All Along, which follows Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) after Wanda Maximoff strips her of power, as she teams up with a mysterious teenage familiar to form a coven and embark on the legendary Witches' Road. Plaza portrayed Rio Vidal/Death, while LuPone played Lilia Calderu.
The two became very close friends while filming the TV series, which was shot from January to May 2023 in Atlanta and Los Angeles, with some reshoots taking place in January and February 2024. In an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers that Plaza did in September 2024, she confirmed that she lived with LuPone in New York City while she was starring in her first off-Broadway production of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, which ran from October 2023 to January 2024.
Though LuPone and Plaza do not work together anymore, the Parks and Recreation star told The View that the two are still close and LuPone acts as "her theater mother."
"I lived with her when I did my last play, and this play, she is still mentoring me," Plaza explained. "We kind of are doing like a real-life Gypsy. She comes into the theater and screams at me from the house and tells me to 'Sing out!'"
Currently, Plaza stars in Let's Love, a comedy off-Broadway production written by Ethan Coen and starring Chris Bauer and Mary McCann that explores love in all its miserable glory. The play is expected to run until Nov. 22.
In addition, the 41-year-old actress released a new children's book titled Luna and the Witch Throw a Halloween Party alongside writer Dan Murphy this past July. This is Plaza's third children's book.
Meanwhile, LuPone has stepped away from Broadway shows, but continues to expand her career in film and television. The 78-year-old actress is best known for her roles as Eva Perón in Evita, Fantine in Les Misérables, Mama Rose in Gypsy and Mrs. Lovett in the 2005 Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd.
