For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Trent Allen from Indiana’s Carmel High School and Carmel Swim Club has announced his verbal commitment to join the University of Florida men’s swimming and diving team in 2027-28.
“I’m excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Florida! I want to thank Coach Nesty and the entire staff at Florida for giving me this opportunity. A special thanks to Coach Plumb and Coach Pfaff for pushing me to become the best version of myself everyday. I would also like to thank my family, friends, and teammates who have supported me every step of the way. I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to be a part of the Gator family. Go Gators!”
Allen is a mid-distance specialist with a sweet spot in the 200-500 range. With year-over-year drops of 19 seconds in the 500 free, 3.8 in the 200 free, and almost 5 in the 200 back, we considered him worthy of an “Honorable Mention” classification on our Way Too Early list of top boys’ swimming recruits in the high school class of 2027.
Allen is the reigning Indiana high school state champion in the 200/500 free, events he won last year as a sophomore with PBs of 1:37.07 and 4:20.88, respectively. Prior to high school states, he’d gone best times in the 100 free (45.98), 100 back (50.09), 200 back (1:47.78), 100 breast (59.07), 200 IM (1:51.87), and 400 IM (3:53.83). He competed at Winter Juniors East in December, placing 10th in the 500 free and earning then-PBs in the 200/500 free and 200 back, but he improved on all those times later in the season.
This summer, he updated his LCM best times across the board. At Indy Sectionals in March, he kicked off the season with PBs in the 50 free (24.30), 200 free (1:49.50), 400 free (3:52.80), 200 back (2:03.32), and 200 IM (2:07.29), qualifying for U.S. Open in the back, Summer Nationals in the 200/400 free, and Summer Juniors in the IM. A month later, he hit new PBs in the 200 breast and 200 fly (qualifying for Winter Juniors in the latter) at a CSC vs FAST senior meet.
At U.S. Nationals, he finaled in the 200 free (27th place) and 400 free (14th place) and lowered his lifetime best in the 400 to 3:52.40. He wrapped up the long course season at Junior National Championships in Irvine, clocking PBs in the 800 free (8:04.30) and 400 IM (4:24.34) and placing 3rd in the 400 free, 4th in the 800 free, 7th in the 200 free, and 10th in the 400 IM.
Allen’s event profile slots nicely into the Gators’ recent tradition of 400 IM/distance freestyle specialists like Bobby Finke, Kieran Smith, Mason Laur, Gio Linscheer, Kevin Vargas, Miguel Cancel Trey Freeman, Brennan Gravely, and Eric Brown.
He will join fellow verbal commit #12 Luke Zardavets in the Florida class of 2031.
