DENVER (KDVR) — Coach Deion Sanders said Saturday after the University of Colorado vs. Texas Christian University game that he thought he had more blood clots in his leg.
The CU head football coach could be seen during the game walking without one shoe and at times sitting down.
"The cat is out of the bag, alright, I think I got more blood clots. It doesn't make sense. I'm hurting like crazy," he said to reporters.
Sanders has a history of blood clots and had two toes amputated in 2021. He had more surgeries to remove blood clots in 2023.
Dr. Matt McDiarmid is an Interventional Cardiologist at HCA HealthONE Mountain Ridge. He has no connection to Coach Prime but says he hopes that Sanders is getting diagnostic testing.
"Arterial clots are going to restrict blood flow to the limb, in his case, his leg, which is why he previously had amputations of his toes," McDiarmid said.
The doctor said a person is more at risk of getting clots if they have had clots before.
"If he’s having a similar re-occurrence as to what has been publicly acknowledged, then I hope in his best interest that he is with his health care professionals today," McDiarmid said.

"Clots in general are very dangerous and not to be taken lightly," McDiarmid said.
It's been a tough year for Coach Prime. He also fought off bladder cancer earlier this year.
