Drake Maye is replacing Tom Brady, while the Denver Broncos are knocking off the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.
It’s easy to overreact just five games into the 2025 season — it’s also a weekly ritual that NFL fans love to participate in.
Here is talkSPORT’s roundup of the biggest and juiciest topics after Week 5.
Some are total overreactions, but others are 100 percent on target.
Check back weekly for the latest round of wild and crazy reactions.
Drake Maye is the second coming of Tom Brady
The second-year quarterback from North Carolina was brilliant on Sunday Night Football.
While Maye’s old college debated whether he was worth promoting thanks to its new Bill Belichick rules, the No. 3 overall selection of the 2024 NFL Draft completed 22-of-30 passes for 273 yards and a 101.1 rating in a strong 23-20 win over the Buffalo Bills.
Maye also helped Stefon Diggs reignite his NFL career, as the ex-Bill caught 10 balls for 146 yards.
Of course, Brady comparisons soon followed.
The greatest QB of all time sat and watched as a rookie, then went 11-3 as a starter in his second year and won the Super Bowl.
Maye has a long, long way to go before he can even be compared to Brady’s second season, let alone a seven-time SB winner.
Overreaction: Yes.
Drake Maye is trying to follow in Tom Brady’s legendary footstepstalksportGeno Smith is done in Las Vegas
Speaking of Brady …
There’s no way that Smith’s QB play is tolerable to the part-owner of the Raiders.
Pete Carroll acknowledged that he’s struggling with the Raiders’ 1-4 start, and Smith isn’t helping things.
He’s thrown a league-high nine interceptions, while Las Vegas holds a minus-56 point differential.
Smith’s two-year, $75 million contract is looking like a serious bust, and the Raiders’ next QB will likely arrive in the draft.
Overreaction: No.

He should be right now.
Dak Prescott is putting up big numbers but the Dallas Cowboys are 2–2-1 and they’re not legit Super Bowl contenders.
Matthew Stafford also deserves credit for the Los Angeles Rams’ resilience.
The problem for Mayfield is that Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes were still topping the NFL MVP odds as of Monday, which proves that Las Vegas is normally right – even when it’s wrong.
Overreaction: Yes.
GettyBaker Mayfield has already proven his critics wrong[/caption]Baltimore Ravens are missing the playoffs
John Harbaugh’s worst season was 2015, when Baltimore went 5-11.
That eventually led to a couple average years and the drafting of Lamar Jackson in 2018.
The Ravens can’t afford to be 1-4 when they’re paying Jackson $260 million.
Baltimore might make changes, but the postseason already feels out of reach.
Overreaction: No.
Denver Broncos are winning the AFC West
I picked Denver before the season.
And I might be right, if Bo Nix can keep winning big games.
A surprising road victory over the Philadelphia Eagles was a huge internal win for Sean Payton’s team.
Take care of business against the 0-5 New York Jets at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, and the Broncos will keep pace with the Los Angeles Chargers in the West.
Overreaction: No.
