A Dancing with the Stars pro has refused to hide their serious health condition from fans. They hope that by speaking openly about their struggle, others will better understand the challenges of living with a chronic illness.
Rylee Arnold, paired with Scott Hoying for Season 30, regularly shares her Type 1 Diabetes journey on social media. On TikTok, she has posted videos and responded to fans' concerns about her health in an effort to educate and inform others about the disease.
However, many viewers remain unaware of the pro's health struggles. That's because the device she wears to monitor her blood sugar is hidden beneath her costumes.
The dancer revealed via TikTok that she has no intention of ever covering her medical device under her costumes. "It just so happens that it is always covered," she explained.

@ryleearnold#stitch with @abbey.n.darby I loved this question so much!!! Let me know in the comments if you guys have any other questions on how I manage my type 1 diabetes while on the show!! ?✨?
♬ original sound - Rylee Arnold"I tend to put my Dexcom on my lower abdomen. I don't really do the arms because with dancing, it's physical on your arms, and I get super nervous it will come off," Arnold continued.
"I always put it on my stomach, left or right. Most of my costumes are covered on the midsection area and are usually high-waisted. But I have no intention of hiding it," the pro concluded.
Rylee Arnold doesn't let diabetes define her
Rylee Arnold, 20, has been open about living with Type 1 Diabetes. According to PEOPLE Magazine, she was diagnosed at 15.
Disney/Eric McCandlessPer the Mayo Clinic, Type 1 Diabetes is when "the pancreas makes little or no insulin. Insulin is a hormone the body uses to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy."
Arnold manages her disease with good nutrition, reducing stress, and exercise. She has the support of her family, including sisters Lindsay, Jensen, Brynley, and Rylee Arnold, and parents Josh and Mindy Arnold, as she continues her health journey.
She's also guided by the words of her older sister, former Dancing With the Stars pro and mirrorball trophy winner Lindsay Arnold. Lindsay first joined the show in 2013 and went on to compete through 2021, winning Season 25 alongside Jordan Fisher.
Arnold told PEOPLE Magazine that Lindsay offered her invaluable advice when she first joined DWTS as a pro after having previously appeared as a dancer on the series' special junior season in 2018, reaching the finals with actor Miles Brown.
“The best piece of advice that I've ever received from Lindsay, and honestly, the best piece of advice I've ever been given, is to always just remain true to yourself,” Arnold said. “Always just be yourself, authentically you, because if people don't like you for you, then you're not where you need to be.”
She concluded, “It got me through everything. I love her.”
Dancing with the Stars will honor Disney films on Disney Night, tonight at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+. The series airs the next day on Hulu.
