Saint Petersburg, Florida’s Izzy Riva has made a verbal commitment to Stanford University for the 2027-28 school year. She wrote on social media:
“I’m beyond honored and blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Stanford University! First, I want to give all glory and thanks to God. Thank you to the friends, family, and coaches who have supported and believed in me throughout this journey. I’m also grateful for my teammates and Coach Fred at St. Petersburg Aquatics. A special thanks to Coach Chris, Coach Annie, and Coach Marcus for giving me this incredible opportunity. This is truly a dream come true, GO CARD! ”
Riva attends Shorecrest Prep Academy and swims year-round with Saint Petersburg Aquatics. She specializes in distance freestyle, and we considered her the #14 recruit in the class on our Way Too Early list of top girls’ swimming recruits from the high school class of 2027.
In high school swimming, Riva won the 500 free (4:50.11) and placed 3rd in the 200 free (1:48.85) last fall at the FHSAA Class 1A (smallest schools) State Swimming and Diving Championships. Both times were lifetime bests.
In December, she competed at Winter Juniors East, where she finished 6th in the mile (16:23.26) and 11th in the 500 free (4:48.25), lowering her PBs in both events. She also finaled in the 200 free (21st, 1:48.97) and swam in prelims of the 100 free and 200 IM. At Florida Swimming Senior Championships in March, she lowered her 500 free time another 2 seconds (4:46.22) and added a PB in the 1000 free (9:49.52).
Riva kicked off the 2025 long-course season with a bang at Ocala Sectionals. She notched best times in the 50 free (28.05), 100 free (59.23), 50 back (31.84), 200 back (2:21.25), 100 breast (1:18.59), and 200 IM (2:24.06). She bookended that performance with an appearance at Summer Junior Nationals in Irvine, where she came in 11th in the 1500 free (PB of 17:01.15), 19th in the 800 free (8:55.55), 10th in the 400 free (4:18.29), and 28th in the 200 free (PB of 2:03.78).

She would have scored in the top 16 of the 1650 free and made the ‘C’ final of the 500 free at the 2025 ACC Championships. Roghair has since graduated but she will overlap one year with O’Regan.
Riva’s commitment is on the early side for Stanford, who in the past has waited for the Admission Office to do a full academic pre-read of the recruit’s transcripts, but we have these Cardinal announcements come earlier and earlier each year.
