2 Founding Members of Grammy-Winning Music Group Announce Exits

Maverick City Music lost two of its founding members.

Naomi Raine and Chandler Moore announced their respective exits from the popular Christian gospel music group via Instagram on Monday, October 6. In Naomi’s statement, the 38-year-old musician reflected on the group's journey, starting in a shed and singing their way to five Grammy awards.

“This journey has changed my life forever. I don’t regret one single thing,” she wrote. “The highs, the lows, the lessons … all of it. I’ve learned so much about God, about people and about myself – and I will always carry those lessons with me.”

Maverick City Music alum Brandon Lake sent well-wishes to his former bandmate in the comments section of the post.

“Gosh reading this just brought back so many memories and filled my eyes with tears,” Brandon, 35, wrote. “Love you so much. Miss you tons!”

Meanwhile, Chandler, 30, opened up about his “bittersweet” decision to part ways with the religious music group.

“This transition isn’t easy. Maverick is something I poured my heart and soul into, so it’s almost like saying goodbye to your own kid, ha,” he wrote in his statement.

Chandler later added that his “dream hasn’t changed,” he’s just “stepping into this next phase ready to share [his] story and make music that helps people feel a little more human.”

“I will forever love Maverick City and the happiness that filled my heart when I heard your voice – I love your voice no matter where it’s at or what you sing!” a fan wrote in the comments section of Chandler’s post. “I wish you nothing but happiness no matter where you go! Just keep the Faith and God will always lead you to where you are meant to be! And I will always be there to listen!”

The members of Maverick City Music took home their first Grammy in 2022 in the category for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for their album Old Church Basement.

The following year, their album Breathe won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album, while Kingdom Book One Deluxe won Best Gospel Album. The group’s song “Fear Is Not My Future” snagged the Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song and “Kingdom” was deemed Best Gospel Performance/Song.
