Missouri State v. Southern Illinois
October 3-4, 2025 Hammons Student Center, Springfield, MO 25 yards (SCY) ResultsThe Missouri State men’s and women’s teams opened their 2025–26 campaign with a split result against Southern Illinois in Springfield. The Bears’ men’s team earned a commanding 275–171 victory, while the Saluki women came out on top 260.5–181.5 over two days of competition (Friday and Saturday).
Women’s Recap
Southern Illinois took control early on the women’s side, opening with a win in the 400-yard medley relay and extending its lead to 126–95 after day one. Despite the deficit, the Bears recorded several standout swims.
For Southern Illinois, freshman Lívia Munkácsi-Nagy delivered a breakout debut with three individual wins, taking gold in the 1000 free on Friday in 10:24.92 and both the 400 IM (4:25.00) and 500 free (5:03.70) on Saturday.
Second Team All-American Olivia Herron shone for SIU, winning the 200 free (1:54.92) and 200 breast (2:18.56) on Friday, and then picked up another two wins on Saturday in the 100 fly (56.73) and 100 breast (1:04.22). Her 100 fly marked a new lifetime best from her previous of 57.33 from Februrary.
Friday treated the Saluki women nicely, with senior Brooklyn Anderson taking home the 200 fly win in 2:07.52, and fourth-year teammate Zaria Terry topping the 100 free (51.80).
SIU also swept the podium in the women’s 100 back on Saturday, with Liseska Gallegos Gutierrez (55.57), Andrea Santos Arambula (58.40), and Tia Jankovics (59.01).
MSU freshman Aleca Howard earned a win in her collegiate debut in the 200 IM (2:06.77), finishing ahead of senior Lana Janson (2:07.49). Junior Lindsey Hervey took the 500 freestyle (5:07.35), while freshman Delaney Nickles won the three-meter diving event with 247.50 points.
On Saturday, Missouri State junior Claire Culberson opened the session with a win in the 1000 freestyle (10:37.93), and Makenzie Kurre (1:55.43) edged SIU’s Olivia Herron (1:55.66) in the 200 free.
In diving, junior Maggie Arceneaux (MSU) took the 1-meter win with 247.88 points.
Men’s Recap
Missouri State’s men established control early, building a 139–85 lead after the opening day and maintaining momentum throughout the weekend.
Freshman Zach Mendez led the Bears with three individual victories, notching freestyle wins in the 200 free (1:39.68), 500 free (4:34.66), and 1000 free (Saturday, 9:29.76). Sophomore NJIT transfer Ilias El Fallaki opened his Missouri State career with a win in the 1000 free on Friday (9:46.79).
In the sprint events, MSU junior Matvei Chesakov (20.71) and senior Chris Bedsole (21.72) finished 1–2 in the 50 free on Friday, while senior Lucas Chadwell claimed Saturday’s 50 free (20.55). Junior Anderson Brown doubled up on event wins, taking the 200 fly (1:50.06) and 400 IM (4:04.66).
Senior Luigi Da Silva took the 200 breaststroke (2:03.67), and freshman Kiefer Roemer earned his first collegiate victory in the 100 breaststroke (55.69), narrowly ahead of Da Silva (55.79). Sophomore Jack Ailshire added a win in the 100 butterfly (49.81), and sophomore Máté Miszlai claimed the 500 freestyle (4:41.82).
Missouri State also swept both men’s medley relays, including Saturday’s 200 medley relay team of Carter Crook, Roemer, Ailshire, and Chadwell, which finished in 1:30.29.
On the boards, senior Storm Opdahl swept the 1-meter diving events with scores of 303.15 and 310.88 to open his senior season.
For the Salukis, Benedek Andor opened up the win column for SIU with a Friday win in the 200 IM (1:54.98). Senior Alex Cimera followed suit in the 100 free, touching in 45.37. The final Friday win came at the hands of Willem Huggins in the 200 back, touching first in 1:50.36.
Huggins took the win the following day in the 100 back, clocking 49.91, the only swimmer under 50 seconds in the event.
SIU will visit UIC on Friday, October 10th, followed by a meeting with Northwestern and Miami (OH) on October 11th.
Missouri State will host a two-day meet against Indiana State (W) and Ouachita Baptist (M) on October 17th-18th.
