Rory McIlroy could cut back on the number of PGA Tour events he plays as the fallout from the Ryder Cup continues.
It comes as the Team Europe hero relocates back to the UK with his wife and daughter.
McIlroy was subjected to a torrent of abuse from fans at last weekend’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York.
The toxicity from the crowds also extended towards his family, with his wife Erica even having a beer thrown at her.
According to the Daily Mail, McIlroy was left ‘very angry and hurt’ by the unsavoury scenes.
It is understood the behaviour of fans towards the world no.2 has made his decision to leave the USA ‘easier’.
McIlroy’s treatment at the Ryder Cup will also influence how many PGA Tour events he plays in the future.
He is currently preparing to return to the UK with his family after renovating their Surrey mansion.

The couple have spent 18 months revamping their £9million estate in Wentworth, which they bought in 2023.
Erica ‘can’t wait’ to return to England from their current home in Jupiter, Florida, the report adds.
However, they are set to keep their property in the Sunshine State.
It is the six-bedroom gated house in Wentworth which will now become their permanent residence, though.

He could now be set to feature more regularly on Europe’s DP World Tour in response to his treatment at the Ryder Cup.
That is despite PGA of America CEO Derek Spague revealing he planned to send a formal apology to McIlroy and his family.
Spague told GolfChannel.com: “I haven’t spoken to Rory or Erica [McIlroy], I do plan on sending them an e-mail with my heartfelt apologies because of what occurred.
“There’s no place for that in the Ryder Cup or the game of golf. I heard Rory say it, we’re better than that in golf.

McIlroy has played in four events on the European Tour in 2025, including his win at the Irish Open in September.
In contrast, the five-time major winner has featured at 12 PGA Tour events as well as at all four majors this year.
Alongside winning the Masters to complete the Grand Slam in April, the 36-year-old has two further victories on US soil this season.
