“29 years ago, on this day, Oct 6 1996, I was on cloud 9!” McGraw recalled, remembering that particular swoon-worthy moment in the caption of his post. “I was marrying the girl of my dreams, she was everything, my complete soulmate!”
“We have been through so much together, our girls growing up, me trying to grow up, and you, you, you, always there, always there for all of us when we fell, always you when we triumphed, always you,” he continued, throwing his whole heart into the tribute letter to his other half. “When we love, when we live, when we think of how to love, live, and dream, always you. You are my girl, I love you with a fire that grows each passing year.”
McGraw, 58, and Hill, also 58, who share three daughters—Gracie, 28, Maggie, 27, and Audrey, 23—met in 1994, during the annual Country Radio Seminar in Nashville, Tenn. Both were in separate relationships at the time, and their connection, while instant, remained friendly at first.
However, things changed rapidly as sparks flew when the “It Matters to Me” powerhouse joined McGraw as an opening act for his Spontaneous Combustion Tour. Their whirlwind romance turned serious in a matter of months as McGraw regularly began asking Hill to marry him.

"She said, 'I'm not going to get involved with another country singer, it's just not going to work out.'"
But that didn’t stop McGraw from the thrill of the chase, and he was determined to get what he wanted. Finally, one day, she said, ‘Yes.’ McGraw said the moment came during an outdoor music festival when the two were talking in a trailer while he was getting ready to go on stage.
"She said, 'You're asking me to marry you at a country music festival in a trailer house?'" McGraw recalled. "And I said, 'Well, it's pretty apropos if you think about it.'"
"I came off the stage and went back into my dressing room, and Faith wasn't there, but I looked at the mirror. In lipstick, it said, 'Yes! I'm gonna be your wife,'" the singer said. "And we still have that mirror. And it was the best day of my life, that's for sure."
McGraw and Hill tied the knot in 2006, and as they say, the rest is history.
