DENVER (KDVR) — A suspect is in the hospital and will eventually face charges after an Englewood police officer shot him when he allegedly charged at and stabbed another officer at a Denny's just after midnight Monday, according to the Englewood Police Department.
The officers were responding to the Denny's after a call that the suspect had pulled a knife on an employee and tried to stab them.
Police in a press release said this happened at around 12:30 a.m. at Denny's at 275 W. Hampden Avenue.
When officers arrived, the suspect was reported to be alone in the bathroom. The officers contacted the suspect, who shortly after "pulled out a knife and charged at the officers on scene, ultimately stabbing one officer in the shoulder area," police said.
Another officer shot the suspect and officers disarmed him, police said. They rendered aid to the suspect, who was later taken to a hospital and is being treated for his injuries.
The officer who was stabbed was treated and released from a hospital.
Police did not say the condition of the suspect, but said when he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Arapahoe County jail and face charges.
"There is no additional threat to the public," police said.
The 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting, and the officers who were involved are on paid administrative leave.
