Chris Myers and Brady Quinn will now be calling the game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Indianapolis Colts for Fox Sports on Sunday.
The play-by-play announcer and analyst have replaced Mark Sanchez and his co-broadcaster Adam Amin after the ex-NFL quarterback-turned-broadcaster Sanchez was arrested on Saturday.
The incident left the 38-year-old hospitalized with stab wounds to his right torso area, though he is now in a stable condition and recovering.
Fox Sports’ PR team took to X on Saturday to give a statement in which they said: “Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition.
“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
Ahead of Fox NFL Kickoff, host Charissa Thompson opened the broadcast by speaking a few words on her colleague.
“Friday night in Indianapolis, one of our team members Mark Sanchez was involved in an incident that we are still trying to wrap our heads around,” Thompson said.
“At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, his family and all of those involved.”
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Chief Chris Bailey took to X to make a statement in response to the events that transpired in his jurisdiction.
“Proud of our IMPD officers and detectives who stayed focused on our mission and not the noise,” Bailey wrote.
“Their professionalism represents the best of our department. IMPD will continue to be a steady, reliable presence in our city because our community deserves nothing less.”
Sanchez has since been charged with three misdemeanors, including battery resulting in injury, public intoxication and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, according to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
Sanchez’s most successful years came in the beginning of his NFL career with the NY JetsGetty Brady Quinn has been brought in to be the emergency color analyst in place of SanchezGetty“This incident should never have happened,” Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a statement Sunday, via ESPN.
“What began as a disagreement between a 38-year-old former professional athlete and a 69-year-old man should not have escalated into violence or left anyone seriously injured.
“As with any case, we will follow the facts and the law wherever they lead.”
Selected fifth overall by the New York Jets in the 2009 NFL Draft, Sanchez spent eight seasons in the league, spearheading the Jets under center to back-to-back AFC Championship games in 2009 and 2010.
After four seasons in New York, the former USC quarterback bounced around the NFC East with the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins (now known as the Commanders), where he served as a backup.
Sanchez was due to be part of the Fox Sports’ broadcasting crew between the Raiders and Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, though he, along with his co-broadcaster Amin, will no longer play any part in the game coverage.
