Versatile freestyler Sadie Edwards has committed to the Virginia Military Institute as a member of the women’s 2027 recruiting class.
Edwards is from Virginia Beach, Va., where she represents Tide Swimming and Atlantic Shores Christian School.
She announced her commitment on social media:
I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at the NCAA Division 1 level for Virginia Military Institute. After meeting with Coach Thacker, I knew that VMI had everything I was looking for: a top tier academic experience, solid swim program, and an opportunity to serve my country. I thank God for all of the amazing opportunities I have been given over the course of my swim career. A huge thank you to my family, Coach Mike, and Coach Ricky for supporting me both in and out of the water. Edwards’ best short course showing came at the VSI SE District 13&Over Championships this past February/March, where her top finish came in the 1000 free, where she clocked a best time of 11:06.71 to finish 1st. She also marked new best times in the 50 free (25.85), 200 free (1:59.49), 500 free (5:24.73), 100 backstroke (1:04.67), and 100 butterfly (1:01.50).
She also holds other freestyle bests of 56.46 in the 100 free from the VA SRVA Commonwealth Cup in November, and 18:52.78 in the 1650 free from the 2025 VSI SC Senior Championships.

50 Free: 25.85 100 Free: 56.46 200 Free: 1:59.21 500 Free: 5:24.73 1000 Free: 11:06.71 1650 Free: 18:52.78VMI competes in the America East Conference, with the women’s team coming off a 7th-place finish at the 2025 conference championships.
Based on Edwards’ best times, she would have placed 29th in the 200 free, 26th in the 500 free, and 19th in the 1650.
In comparison to last season’s VMI squad, Edwards would have ranked as the program’s top 200 freestyler and 1000 freestyler, and the 2nd fastest 500 freestyler. She will bring plenty of depth to the mid-distance and distance free group for VMI.
Edwards is the only publicly committed recruit in the class of 2027 for VMI.
