Arizona’s Brent Brennan said accountability was critical in win vs. Oklahoma State

Following a loss to Iowa State last week, Arizona Wildcats head coach Brent Brennan said the team stressed the importance of holding each other accountable as they prepared for its game against Oklahoma State.

“We measure everything by our standard redline. All week we talked about being accountable and when I think about this week and how we practice and how we attacked the work, that part of the accountability everybody was all in to get that done this weekend against a really unique opponent,” Brennan said postgame on Saturday.

Arizona certainly answered the call as the Wildcats racked up over 470 yards on offense in a 41-13 win against Oklahoma State on Saturday. Arizona’s defense was just as good, limiting Oklahoma State, who were playing in just their second game with interim head coach Doug Meacham, to 158 total yards and forcing two turnovers.

With the win, Arizona (4-1, 1-1 Big 12) matched its win total from 2024 after the team finished a disappointing 4-7 last season.

“I’m proud of how we came to work this week and we battled through it,” Brennan said. “When I think of our team, I’m just proud of our coaches and players, how they continue to work, how they continue to play for each other, how they play for the community and this university.”

Brent Brennan compliments Noah Fifita, offense in win

Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita was among the standouts from Saturday’s game as the junior threw for 370 yards and five touchdowns in the win. Fifita and the offense bounced back after being limited to 14 points against Iowa State.

“Being a Division I quarterback on this level is hard. You get way too much credit and too much blame,” Brennan said. “Noah Fifita handles it with incredible class and dignity. He’s a great leader and a great teammate.”

Brennan credits the growth Fifita has achieved so far this season and sticking with the program after a tough 2024 campaign.

“He loves Tucson and the University of Arizona. At my postgame press conference, I told (reporters) everyone in the world has tried to recruit him away from here. They offered him money and all kinds of stuff and he’s chosen to stay because he loves it here and he’s gonna leave his mark on this program,” Brennan said. “I thought today was a good step in that direction.”

Fifita wasn’t the only standout on offense as four different receivers caught touchdowns in the win, including sophomore wideout Tre Spivey who caught three passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns.

Brennan credited the team’s execution and the team’s ability to spread the ball around in the air as a key reason for the win.

“When we trust the scheme and we do what we’re supposed to do and we do it redline, we get good results,” Brennan said. “It’s great to have that validation because that’s obviously something as a we’ve been preaching as a coaching staff.

“It was great to see Noah throw the ball well and it was great to see those receivers finish the way they did.”

    Arizona’s next game

After the bounce-back win, Arizona will host No. 25 BYU (5-0, 2-0) who are coming off a 38-24 win against West Virginia on Friday.
