Western Carolina’s Taron Dickens was better than a video game QB while completing his first 46 passes against Wofford. No player was even close to that in an NCAA or FCS football game.
Flex those muscles, Taron Dickens.
The Western Carolina quarterback shattered NCAA and FCS records by completing 46 straight pass attempts to begin a 23-21 win at Wofford in the Southern Conference on Saturday.
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound redshirt sophomore finished 53-for-56 for 378 yards and three touchdowns, with a long of 27 yards. He also had 19 carries for 44 yards.
The previous FCS record for consecutive completions also was the high mark for all NCAA divisions: Princeton’s Quinn Epperly completed his first 29 attempts against Cornell on Nov. 2, 2013.
Dickens’ 30th straight completion was a 3-yard pass to tight end Brayden Blackmon early in the third quarter.
After Dickens reached 46-for-46, he again sought out Blackmon, but Terriers linebacker Alijah Williams broke up a pass attempt just outside his team’s goal line with 10:32 left in the fourth quarter.

— Western Carolina Football (@CatamountsFB) October 4, 2025Wide receiver James Tyre caught all three of Dickens’ touchdown passes, but the Catamounts (3-3, 2-0) trailed 21-20 after three quarters. Freshman Marcus Trout’s 34-yard field goal with 23 seconds remaining provided the winning margin.
Dickens, a Miami native, was ineligible for Western Carolina’s first three games due to an academic issue. Through his first three games, he’s completed 114-of-142 attempts (80.3%) for 1,387 yards and 13 touchdowns without an interception.
A year ago, Dickens played in seven games, starting the last four, and was a finalist for the Stats Perform Jerry Rice Award, which honors the FCS freshman of the year. He had 36 completions in the season’s final game against Samford, marking his previous high.
