Ozzy Osbourne opened up about one of the darkest periods of his life in the upcoming Paramount+ documentary Ozzy: No Escape From Now.
In an exclusive look at the documentary, the Black Sabbath icon revealed he once contemplated suicide back in 2021 after struggling with the aftermath of a botched surgery, long before his death in July 2025 at the age of 76.
“The thought of not doing any gigs anymore — I went really into depression,” Ozzy admitted in the film. “I’m on antidepressants now, actually. Because I was getting ready to off myself at some point.”
The surgery stemmed from a late-night fall in 2019 that displaced metal rods previously inserted after his near-fatal 2003 ATV crash. While the procedure was meant to help, it only made his pain worse — and pushed him into a spiral. Even then, Ozzy joked that his own luck kept him from making an attempt. “I’ll go there in my head and I go, ‘What are you f–king talking about?’ Because knowing me, I’d half-do it and I’d be half-dead. I mean, I wouldn’t die, you know? That’s my luck.”
His wife Sharon Osbourne recalled how unhappy Ozzy was at this time as well. “Some days he wishes he was dead. He’s in so much pain, he can’t take it,” she said, somberly. “He just wishes he could go.”

According to Sharon, 72, the initial surgery had been far too “aggressive,” leaving lasting nerve damage. “Which didn’t need doing,” she explained, adding that a later surgeon attempted to “patch him up” but “the main damage was done.”
Their son Jack Osbourne echoed her frustration, saying, “The Parkinson’s is progressing… but his lack of mobility is the huge issue. That f**king doctor stripped him of his abilities to move, and it makes me so angry.”
The documentary comes just three months after the rocker’s death on July 22. His family confirmed the news in a statement, writing and sharing on Instagram, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.”
Ozzy: No Escape From Now premieres on Paramount+ Tuesday, October 7.
