    Women’s Meet Recap

The Cardinals opened the meet with a sweep of the top three spots on the women’s medley relays with the fastest swimmers spread out among the top three relay teams.

The ‘B’ team of Xeniya Ignatova (26.16), Caroline Larsen (27.70), Sophia Rodriguez (24.51), and Daria Golovaty (23.00) took home the gold with their final time of 1:41.37.

She came in just two tenths behind sophomore teammate Caroline Larsen who swam 22.61 for the win, three tenths faster than her time from this meet last year. Mishler finished 3rd in 23.03

Dennis was exhibition in the 100 fly, swimming 58.96 to mark her 2nd time swimming the event while in college. Larsen won this event as well, touching in 54.47 to win by nearly three seconds.

    Men’s Recap

The Louisville men saw huge performances from a few of their freshman to help the Cardinals sweep the men’s events.

Finnley Conklin, Nikita Sheremet, and Oscar Isberg all brought home wins, making five of the 12 individual event winners first-year team members.

Conklin and Sheremet started the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. Conklin swam the breaststroke leg in 24.44 and Sheremet swam 19.59 on the freestyle to join sophomores Rian Graham (back- 22.01) and Thomas Powers-Hammond (fly- 20.92) coming together in 1:26.96 to win by just over two seconds.

Conklin went on to sweep the breaststroke events, swimming 54.85 in the 100 and 2:01.01 in the 200. His 100 time was just over a second off his lifetime best of 53.54 from last December, and his 200 was just over three seconds off the 1:57.99 he swam, also in December.

Sheremet swam very well in his first ever SCY meet, taking home wins in the 50 free with his 19.83 and in the 100 free with his 44.06. He was only four tenths off the NCAA standard in the 50 free, which sits at 19.43.

The freshmen weren’t the only younger swimmers leading the Cardinals. Of the remaining seven events, four were won by sophomores.

Gregg Enoch won the 200 butterfly in 1:47.44 and the 200 IM in 1:48.48. This 200 IM time was more than two seconds faster than the 1:50.60 he swam at this meet last season.

Filip Kosinski won the 200 backstroke in 1:47.98 and Rian Graham won the 100 fly in 47.88 to round out the sophomore event champions.

The other three events went to seniors. Tommy Bried won the 1000 in 9:17.85, a new lifetime best to drop from the 9:36.21 mark he set back in 2020, the last time he swam the event.

Guy Brooks took the 100 free in 1:37.60, about a second slower than he started the season last year, and Charlie Crush won the 100 backstroke in 49.47, almost exactly the same as the 49.40 he swam at this meet last year.

Xavier also had a few top three finishes. Ethan Leamer swam 9:51.16 in the 1000 to take 3rd, and his brother Aiden Leamer finished 2nd in the 100 fly in 50.35.

Sean McGinley swam 46.24 in the 100 free to finish 3rd. Owen Schwebach swam 4:49.93 in the 500 free and Diego Valdes swam 1:56.47 in the 200 IM with both finishing 2nd overall.
