Hilary Farr, beloved designer and formerLove It or List It star, opened up on Instagram about her battle with breast cancer. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Farr shared a message urging women to prioritize early screening and to speak openly about their experiences.
“Hi, I’m Hilary Farr, and I am a breast cancer survivor,” she shared.
Farr first revealed her diagnosis to People in 2021, sharing that after removing a precancerous tumor in 2012, she was diagnosed with malignant breast cancer following a mammogram in 2014. Thanks to prompt surgery and radiation therapy, Farr has been in remission since 2022.
Breast cancer remains a major health concern, with 1 in 8 women in the U.S. diagnosed at some point in their lives, according to the American Cancer Society.
“You’re going to see an awful lot of people in pink shirts and with pink pins showing their awareness and their support, and I think it is absolutely wonderful,” Farr said. “But I think it’s time to do a little bit more, if we can.”
She’s partnered with ACS to encourage open conversations about cancer and to promote the importance of regular screenings.

“I think it’s going to be different for everyone, but I would say it’s time to share our stories. Let’s get this out in the open and support our communities and, most importantly, get screened.”
After stepping away from Love It or List It in December 2023, Farr continues to use her platform for advocacy. She highlighted ongoing breast cancer research efforts aimed at improving prevention and treatment.
Farr closed out her message, advising those to “Take a deep breath. Sit with your friends and just talk about it and think of what you can do to raise awareness and action this October.”
Fans responded with solidarity, sharing their own stories and support. One wrote, “What a wonderful way to celebrate and recognize and help those going through what you’ve experienced first hand and you look beautiful.”
Another shared their story of survival, writing, “Three times I had treatment with finally a mastectomy to prevent any further experience. You are doing everything right!”
