Attending back-to-back-to-back Cubs playoff games was exhausting. But it also enlivened me. Can you imagine what it would feel like for the Bears to host a meaningful postseason game? They haven’t hosted one since 2018. That is far too long to go without a home playoff game. Ben Johnson, Caleb Williams, and the rest of the gang should change that ASAP.
Here is where the Bears stand in NFL power rankings as they enter their bye week: 17th (The Athletic), 18th (USA Today), 19th (Pro Football Talk), 20th (ESPN), 23rd (The Ringer). The best thing I read in a power rankings post is this via The Ringer’s Diante Lee: “Caleb Williams is getting closer every week to turning the corner.” Sep 28, 2025; Paradise, Nevada, USA; Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams (18) celebrates after the game against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-Imagn Images Pro Football Focus’ updated playoff picture has the Bears on the outside looking in at the moment. We’re only four games into the 2025 season, so I am not doing a ton of scoreboard watching this time of year. However, I do like keeping tabs on the forecast. For what it’s worth, the Bears have five games against NFC teams currently in playoff spots. They also have a pair of games against AFC opponents currently holding postseason positions. Chicago’s upcoming schedule will make for a fun litmus test. I think this Myles Garrett quote about the Detroit Lions running game (h/t Pro Football Talk) gives us an inkling of what Ben Johnson wants this team’s offensive identity to be:“Hats off to them. They ran the ball well enough to keep it as a main feature of the game. That’s what they wanted to do,” Garrett said, via Jacob Richman of MLive.com. “They’re gritty, they’re tough and they want to move guys off the ball and for some of the game they did that.”

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 3, 2025 For those of you keeping score at home, Minnesota is down three starting offensive linemen, a stud pass rusher, and its second-year starting quarterback. With that being said, Carson Wentz has completed 67 percent of his passes and has thrown more touchdowns (4) than interceptions (2) in place of J.J. McCarthy. Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell is an evil genius with magical powers to make this version of Wentz look that good. The numbers for 49ers QB Mac Jones on TNF: 33/49, 342 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT, 100.9 quarterback rating. I’m not sure what to make with this data other than I’m almost ready to move Jones into the evidence pile for my theory that teams (and fans) give up on quarterbacks way too quickly because we (as a general football-consuming public) desire immediate returns on first-round picks based on the select few who are instant smash hits.MORE FROM BLEACHER NATION BEARS: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
