The 67,500-seat venue can be extended to 75,000 and is described by architect HKS as a “Super Theater” for hosting international football games, concerts and the "final four" matches of the NCAA Division One men’s basketball tournament.
The seating bowl is closer to the pitch than any other NFL stadium. It will have a modernised “Dawg Pound” fan section.
Touted as Ohio’s first enclosed stadium, the venue will have a translucent roof without a truss with a design inspired by Cleveland’s atriums.
The project will create around 6,000 construction jobs. Cleveland’s DiGeronimo Companies will be the local partner, Independence Excavating will do enabling works, and Independence Construction will join the Aecom Hunt and Turner joint venture construction management team.
The stadium will form part of a larger mixed-use entertainment district developed by Lincoln Property Company.
Jason Kopp, Aecom Hunt’s chief operating officer in the central region, said: “The New Huntington Bank Field represents a new era for Northeast Ohio – and for reimagining what a fan experience can be.
“We are honoured to be entrusted by Haslam Sports Group to deliver this transformative project to shape the future of sports and entertainment for Browns Nation, elevate Northeast Ohio, and welcome millions of visitors for generations to come.”
The current Huntington Bank Field opened in 1999. The Cleveland Browns’ lease at the site is due to expire in 2028.
