Trillium Health’s Dr. William Valenti stepping down from position

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The man who has been the heart and soul of HIV care in Rochester for more than 40 years is stepping down.

Now known as Trillium Health, Dr. William Valenti co-founded Community Health Network in 1989. At the time, it was an HIV/AIDS clinic.

    Valenti defined the Rochester community’s response to AIDS in the early 80’s, and advised federal and state health agencies.

    Throughout his career, he has served as advisor and consultant to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New York State Department of Health, focusing on infection control and HIV prevention and treatment.

    In 2014, he also became an active member of New York State’s Task Force to End the HIV/AIDS Epidemic.

    Valenti first began his medical career at the University of Rochester, and served as the first hospital epidemiologist at Strong Memorial Hospital from 1977 to 1988.

    To celebrate his career, Trillium Health will hold a ceremony and fundraiser in honor of World AIDS Day on Dec. 11 at the Hyatt Regency in Rochester. Click here to learn more about the event.
