The Today Show anchor Al Roker poked fun at artificial intelligence while making a dad joke about the subject.
While speaking to Us Weekly in an interview published on Thursday, October 2, Roker, 71, shared his worries about the term artificial intelligence being shortened to "AI."
“I’m not so upset about AI as much as when I see it in print, it always looks like Al. I think it should be A.I. or A-I — because when you look at the headlines, it says ‘Al Will Destroy Us.’ And I don’t want to take that responsibility,” Roker jokingly told the outlet.
However, his wife, Deborah Roberts, admitted she had more serious concerns about the use of AI.
“What makes me nervous is AI, because we don’t know where that’s all going. Digital work is great and it’s expansive and we’re all jumping into it, but it is very different,” Roberts, 65, said. “What makes me excited is that people still seem [interested] in what we’re doing, and I’m really proud about that.”
Artificial intelligence "is technology that enables computers and machines to simulate human learning, comprehension, problem solving, decision making, creativity and autonomy," according to IBM's website. "Applications and devices equipped with AI can see and identify objects. They can understand and respond to human language. They can learn from new information and experience. They can make detailed recommendations to users and experts."

Roker and Roberts got married in 1995 before they welcomed their daughter, Leila, in 1998 and their son, Nick, in 2002. Additionally, Roker welcomed his eldest daughter, Courtney, in 1987 with his ex-wife, Alice Bell.
Back in July, Roker took to Instagram to give fans a glimpse into his family's trip to Bermuda for Nick's birthday. “We had a great time celebrating Nick Roker’s 23rd birthday in Bermuda this weekend,” the meteorologist captioned photos of himself, Roberts and Nick on the tropical trip. “The folks at the @thelorenhotels Pink Beach were lovely and had a great #oldskool meal at @tommoorestavern Can’t wait to go back.”
