What is Monster about?
Much like the American Crime Story series on FX, Monster is a crime drama anthology series based on real-life crimes. Both are produced by Ryan Murphy, who also co-created Monster with Ian Brennan. In American Crime Story, specific crimes were delved into and dramatized. The first season of American Crime Story followed The People vs. O. J. Simpson and chronicled the sensationalized trial of former football star O. J. Simpson over the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman. Subsequent seasons explored the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace and the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal. Monster does the same, but with a killer element to the series. Originally intended to be a limited series, Netflix later picked up the show as an anthology series with each season focusing on a different "monstrous figure" in modern-day history.
Ryan Murphy is a prolific writer and producer. He has produced hit shows like Glee, American Crime Story, American Horror Story, Nip/Tuck, and 9-1-1 (and its spinoffs). Murphy has also directed such films as Eat, Pray, Love with Julia Roberts and Running with Scissors starring Joseph Fiennes, Annette Bening, Alec Baldwin, and Brian Cox. He has also served as a writer on most of the shows he has produced.
