ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Applications are now open for college aid programs for the 2026-27 academic year.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), and the NYS Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Incentive Program are now all open for applications.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The FASFA application allows students access to federal resources and determines eligibility for federal aid, including the Pell Grant, Federal Work-Study, and low-interest federal student loans. It is also used to help determine eligibility for state programs such as TAP, STEM, and Excelsior.
According to the Associated Press, Student aid will not be impacted during the government shutdown. Loans will still continue to be handed out, and student loan borrowers must still make payments on their debts.

NYS Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
TAP is available to eligible full-time or part-time students attending a SUNY, CUNY, independent not-for-profit, and proprietary degree-granting colleges and universities.
The TAP program awards between $1,000 to $5,665 to students. To get TAP, students must be in good academic standing, be in good standing on a student loan made under any NYS or federal education loan program, and fall under the income limits. Click here to see all of the eligibility requirements.

NYS STEM Incentive Program
This program is open to high school seniors in the top 10% of their graduating class pursuing STEM degrees at SUNY or CUNY colleges. Recipients must commit to working in the STEM field in New York State for five years after graduation.
The award will cover tuition costs at a SUNY or CUNY college for two years for students getting their associate degree, four years for students pursuing their bachelor’s degree, and five years for approved five-year degree programs.
