Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
High school junior Jonny Palamar from Cary, North Carolina, has announced his verbal commitment to the admission process at Princeton University for 2027-28.
“I am very excited and grateful to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Princeton University! I’d like to thank my family, TAC coaches, and my teammates for their guidance and support over the years. A huge thanks to Coach Matt and Coach Mia for giving me this amazing opportunity to further my academic and athletic career! GO TIGERS!”
Palamar told SwimSwam, “A few years back, my family was on vacation visiting Philadelphia and we ended up driving up to see Princeton. I fell in love with the campus and the university and I told my parents that I would like to study and swim here. Now, 2 years later, I cannot believe I am committed to such an amazing school!”
Palamar is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American at Green Level High School. He swam backstroke (6th place) and butterfly (10th place) as a sophomore last year at the NCHSAA 4A State Championships, clocking then-PBs in the 100 free (48.26 relay leadoff), 50 back (24.19 relay leadoff), and 100 fly (50.86).
Two months earlier, he competed at Winter Juniors East with his club team, TAC Titans. There, he earned PBs in the 100 back (49.78), 200 back (1:47.25), and 200 fly (1:50.04). At Cary Spring Sectionals, he threw down a slew of lifetime bests, including the 200 free (1:41.91), 1000 free (9:33.76), 200 back (1:45.99), 200 fly (1:49.03), 200 IM (1:53.08), and 400 IM (4:01.32). Just two weeks later, at Tar Heel States, he improved his PBs in the 100 free (47.37), 200 free (1:41.32), 500 free (4:35.52), 100 fly (49.90), and 200 fly (1:48.15).
At the TAC Summer Sizzler in August, Palamar dropped in his main events once again, lowering his SCY times to 4:33.89 in the 500 free, 48.80 in the 100 back, 1:44.19 in the 200 back, and 49.25 in the 100 fly.
Palamar had an equally successful long-course season, culminating in all new times at Greensboro Futures. He was runner-up in the 100 back (PB of 2:01.37) and placed 11th in the 200 fly (PB of 2:04.31) and 12th in the 100 back (PB of 57.40). He also updated his lifetime bests in the 50 back (27.62) and 100 fly (56.55).
All told, his year-over-year improvements in SCY events included -2.3 seconds in the 100 back, -4.4 in the 200 back, -2.2 in the 100 fly, and -3.5 in the 200 fly. In LCM, he dropped -2.1 in the 100 back, -4.7 in the 200 back, -1.6 in the 100 fly, and -1.7 in the 200 fly.
His best times would already score for the Tigers at the Ivy League Men’s Championships in the ‘B’ final of the 200 back and the ‘C’ final of the 200 fly; he also would have finished in the top 24 of the 1000 free and he’s just a tick off in the 100 back and 100 fly.
Best SCY times:
200 back – 1:44.19 200 fly – 1:48.15 100 back – 48.80 100 fly – 49.25 1000 free – 9:25.72Palamar was a 2025 USA Swimming Zone Select Camp participant and a 2025 USA Swimming National Select Camp nominee. He told SwimSwam, “I have traveled to 5 European countries and hope to travel the world representing Princeton.”
*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
