Alabama and Vanderbilt have met 86 times in history, with the Crimson Tide leading the series 63-19-4. This will only be the second time they will compete as Top 20 teams. The last time this instance occurred was on November 25, 1937, when No. 4 Alabama defeated No. 12 Vanderbilt in Nashville, 9-7.
Despite the Crimson Tide’s dominance in the series, Vanderbilt ended a 23-game losing streak last season in Nashville when they upset No. 1 Alabama 40-35 as an unranked team. Vanderbilt heads into Tuscaloosa with confidence from last year’s upset. With quarterback Diego Pavia leading the charge, their 5-0 start to the 2025 season marks their first since 2008, giving them a major confidence boost.
“Vanderbilt’s a better football team than they were last year. There are facets of their team that are just flat out better than a season ago. I actually do think they can surprise them [Alabama] to an extent. So much of what they do contains options, reads, and different ways that a play can be successful,” Cubelic said when asked if Vanderbilt can still compete with Alabama and possibly surprise them.
The last time Vanderbilt beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa was on September 29, 1984, when they won 30-21.
