Check Out the Renderings For the New Chicago Bears Stadium in Arlington Heights

This isn’t our first post imploring you to check out the renderings for the new Chicago Bears stadium. And because of how these stadium situations are, I don’t imagine it will be our last. With that in mind, it is the latest.

NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo was among the reporters yesterday sharing the new Bears stadium renderings for the project that will be built in Arlington Heights:

One thing that stands out about the Bears stadium images that Mike Garafolo shares above is how similar they are to Allegiant Stadium, which is home to the Las Vegas Raiders. It is not lost on me that the Bears were (1) just there and (2) have played two games in that stadium since the start of the 2021 season. Back in July 2022, I took a tour of Allegiant Stadium while I was on vacation and celebrating my birthday. At the time, I wrote about how it was easy to dream about what a Bears version of that building could look like. Who knew those thoughts would be so on the nose?

New Bears Stadium Renderings Look Nice

What is there to say about these new Bears stadium images that I haven’t already said about the previous ones we have seen? They look nice. The firms that put these together know what they are doing when they put these renderings out for public consumption. As a Bears fan, I am intrigued by the potential upgrades that will come with a new stadium. The Chicagoan in me is curious to see how much of the campus around the stadium gets built out. And as an architecture enthusiast, I look forward to seeing what it looks like when the finishing touches are put on the building.

But as a tax-payer, I have concerns about this bit of news from the Associated Press (via ESPN):

The Chicago Bears are seeking $855 million in public funding for infrastructure in order to build an enclosed stadium in the suburbs that could also host Super Bowls and Final Fours, according to a team consultant report released on Tuesday.

Though the Bears have said they plan to pay for the stadium itself, they are seeking assistance to help complete the project.

The report by real estate consulting firm HR&A Advisors Inc. says the $855 million would “set the stage” for a mixed-use development anchored by a stadium on a 326-acre tract of land in Arlington Heights that the team owns. That would cover costs for roads, sewers and changes to an adjacent commuter rail line.

To be clear, the Bears have been up front about needing public money to complete the project. Moreover, the team has done what it can to make it clear that it isn’t asking for taxpayer funds to go to building the stadium. Instead, the request for tax money is being made for help with the infrastructure around the stadium. Think along the lines of road construction and the expansion of the nearby Metra station.

For what it’s worth, Bears President and CEO Kevin Warren’s September update regarding the new stadium project included a potential timeline and mentioned a possible bid to host a future Super Bowl. This franchise has big plans and bigger dreams. I like that about this group. However, there is a lot of work still to be done. This feels like a step in the right direction, but I’m not getting ahead of myself just yet.

In the end, I’m glad we have reached this point. It feels like forever ago when Patrick and I visited Arlington Park to survey the land ahead of the town hall-style meeting the team had in Arlington Heights to announce the new Bears stadium plans. Hopefully, Chicago’s football team can close the door, finish the job, and erect the type of state-of-the-art facility this fan base deserves.
