While making an appearance on The Late Showon Tuesday, Sep. 30, Kimmel was asked about some of the most notable people who reached out to him after hearing that his show was being pulled off the air. Jimmy Kimmel Live! was briefly suspended last month following comments the host made about the death of conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk.
"Who was the most unusual person that you got a text from?" Colbert asked. "Because I got some fun ones."
In July, it was announced that Colbert's late-night show will end in May 2026 as a result of a decision made by CBS.
Colbert, 61, revealed that after the news broke of the show's cancellation, he received an outpouring of supportive messages, including one from his high school girlfriend and one from the one and only James Taylor.
And while Kimmel, 57, didn't hear from any high school exes, he too received a message from the "Fire and Rain" singer.

Kimmel said he heard from "literally everyone [he has] ever met" after his show was abruptly pulled from the air, including a "very beautiful note" from Taylor.
Kimmel then joked that he would "love to compare" his note from Taylor with the one Colbert received.
"I want to see if JT did a cut-and-paste on us," he said, before Colbert laughed and asked, "Can we get our phones?"
The two late-night hosts never actually pulled out their phones to compare notes from the music icon, so fans on social media are still waiting for an update.
"We need to know now," one Instagram commenter wrote.
Another user added, "Yeah, we’re gonna need an update on this one!"
