Sam Heughan is living out a dream–and this one has got nothing to do with his acting career, surprisingly.
The 45-year-old Outlander star and cocktail enthusiast–together with business partner Alex Norouzi–is giving a home to the actor's award-winning spirits company, Sassenach Spirits. Heughan previously teased the project in his hometown on Instagram, but it wasn't until Wednesday that all the details of what the company called Heughan's "personal dream" were finally ready to be revealed.

Sassenach Spirits produces The Sassenach, Blended Scotch Whisky and The Sassenach Wild Scottish Gin, launched in 2021 and 2023 respectively. Before now, it's never had a facility open to the public and Heughan's decision to choose Galloway as its first distillery was intentional, sharing in a statement that, "Galloway is an inspirational place. It has unique heritage, folklore, landscapes, and people. Very accessible yet remains an undiscovered and ancient land. I created the Galloway Distillery to return to my roots and give back to the land where I was born."
"My purpose is to shine a light on this unsung corner of Scotland, that has so much to offer," Heughan added. "This represents a true homecoming and new chapter, in the pursuit of fine Scottish spirits from this undiscovered and exceptional land, in the south of Scotland."

The Galloway DistilleryIn a separate Instagram post, Heughan invited fans to "come and see for yourself," going on to call it an "incredible place with so much to offer" before listing off some of its main draws like the coastlines, castles, rolling hills, standing stones, history and now, of course, "incredible spirits."

There's even more to come, as over the next 12 to 14 months, The Galloway Distillery has plans to "significantly develop and expand the visitor offering" so that it becomes a "signature attraction and an ultimate destination" for the area, according to a press release.
"The Galloway region is one of Scotland's undisputed gems, that blends natural beauty, rich history, and warm hospitality," Norouzi added. "For visitors, it offers the perfect start to explore the gateway to Scotland."
Tourism aside, the distillery said "bold new expansion plans" have been approved to make the facility more efficient and sustainable by utilizing a "cleaner and smarter way" to grow and manufacture spirits that powers its cooling and distilling process by green energy and wind with a "net zero design to house all production."
The Galloway Distillery is also gearing up for another big first with The Sassenach Finest Scottish Vodka, scheduled for debut sometime in November 2025. So if you were thinking about visiting Scotland, maybe take this as your sign to seriously consider booking a trip in the near future.
