Emily Blunt issued a bold warning about Tilly Norwood, an AI "actress" that may one day be competing for roles alongside human actors.
Recently, Dutch comedian and producer Eline Van der Velden's AI talent studio, Xicoia, unveiled a digital performer named Tilly Norwood—a brown-haired, seemingly teenage actress—at the Zurich Summit. And Blunt thinks the concept is "terrifying."

During an interview with Variety published on Sept. 29, the A Quiet Place star, 42, was shown a report on the new AI actress.
"Does it disappoint me? I don't know how to quite answer it, other than to say how terrifying this is," she said of Tilly Norwood.
Blunt continued her assessment by sending a bold message about AI technology. replacing actors. "No, are you serious? That's an AI? Good Lord, we're screwed," she declared. "That is really, really scary. Come on, agencies, don't do that. Please stop. Please stop taking away our human connection."
When Blunt was told that Tilly was created to look like a composite of popular celebrities and designed as the "next Scarlett Johansson," she pointed out, "But we have Scarlett Johansson."

During the Sept. 27 summit, Van der Velden shared, per Deadline, "When we first launched Tilly, people were like, ‘What’s that?’ and now we’re going to be announcing which agency is going to be representing her in the next few months.”
As news of Tilly Norwood has spread, many have spoken out against the idea of AI actors in addition to Blunt. The backlash prompted Van Der Velden to issue a statement via Instagram on Sept. 28.
"To those who have expressed anger over the creation of our AI character, Tilly Norwood: she is not a replacement for a human being, but a creative work—a piece of art," she wrote. "Like many forms of art before her, she sparks conversation, and that in itself shows the power of creativity."

Van Der Velden continued, "I see AI not as a replacement for people, but as a new tool—a new paintbrush. Just as animation, puppetry, or CGI opened fresh possibilities without taking away from live acting, AI offers another way to imagine and build stories. I'm an actor myself, and nothing—certainly not an AI character—can take away the craft or joy of human performance."
In July, Tilly posted a video via Instagram of her "first ever role," a comedy sketch titled "AI Commissioner."
