Cole Cubelic shares takeaway for every SEC team after Week 5

The SEC always finds a way to deliver, doesn’t it?

We were blessed with some incredibly competitive matchups in Week 5. Most of them were low-scoring affairs; others (1 in particular) were high-scoring shootouts. And after a day of reflection, SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic has his thoughts on all that transpired.

As he does each week, Cubelic dove into the tape on Sunday and provided his thoughts on each SEC team’s performance on Monday morning. The conference had 13 teams in action, leaving no shortage of good or bad film for him to analyze.

Cubelic applauded Ole Miss for “winning the line of scrimmage” versus LSU, unsurprisingly labeled Arkansas‘ shellacking at the hands of Notre Dame an “ugly one,” and gave credit to Missouri and Vanderbilt for “handling their business.” He classified Georgia‘s loss to Alabama as “tough,” LSU‘s defeat to Ole Miss as “brutal” and Mississippi State letting one slip away versus Tennessee as “gut-wrenching.” Lastly, he lamented the offensive struggles of Auburn and Kentucky while cheering South Carolina‘s ability to make their game with the Wildcats “their style [of] fight.”

Here’s Cubelic’s full rundown on the baker’s dozen SEC teams who graced the gridiron in Week 5:

We do it each week, MY Sunday SEC takeaways…ALABAMA: Huge win. Head & OC had some nice stuff. QB made big throws & great decisions. Saw him look off coverage & sneak a few throws in tight windows. Good job pulling down & running. 26 back a big help, ran hard, bounced a few &…

ARKANSAS: Ugly one. Costly. QB couldn't get into a rythm. Tackles struggled to hold pocket. Thought 4 ran hard but had to get out of the plan so early…9 helped outside. Pressures not seen quickly enough. Got one dimensional in a hurry. Can't be a drop back team vs good fronts.…

AUBURN: Offense couldn't find its way. Lack of run game couldn't help set anything up. OL let down. QB let down. Helmet does not move before leaving pocket too often. There were completions there at times. There wasn't enough protection at times. Seemed like some confusion with…

GEORGIA: Tough one. Had some coverage breakdowns. Couple busts in zone. Close to QB at times but couldn't consistently finish. MIs fit a few runs. 99, 52 & 81 all had some nice strike & shed reps vs run. 5 played fast & physical. Missed tackles on perimeter were killer. Contain…

    — Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 29, 2025

KENTUCKY: Got the opposite style game they needed especially in that venue. But QB & OL in tough spot & didn't allow backs to settle in for 4 QTRS. Turnovers just too much. Ball security not where it needs to be. Like the use of 1, helped widen the defense. Splitters & motions on…

    — Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 29, 2025

LSU: Brutal loss. Had chances. QB not super comfy. Pressure got there. Took shots & didn't get enough 1 on 1 wins. Threw into traffic. 1 or 2 behind. Stood in there for the most part. Plan got the ball out quick often. OL struggled with movement. Gave up too much push in pass…

    — Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 29, 2025

MISSISSIPPI STATE: Gut wrenching. They are playing rear ends off. They contested catches. Took on blocks. Ran to the ball. Couple pressures got home. 7 played pullers well. 11 got to the QB, was really good on timing blitzes. 92 disrupted up front. WRs did get behind them a few…

    — Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 29, 2025

MISSOURI: Handled their business. QB super efficient. Looked like DL got his arm on the pick. RBs are hammers. Both really good, don't sleep on 20. Good in pass pro as well. Needed a little more strain from OL. LOVE how they take free grass. Make the defense pay for their…

    — Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 29, 2025

OLE MISS: Won the line of scrimmage. The DL was impressive. They made things happen. 52 was very disruptive, north/south & on the move. 5 was big. Really caused problems. 15 had good pass rush reps off edges. The CBs were exceptional. DC showed a ton of trust & the won, often. 4…

    — Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 29, 2025

SOUTH CAROLINA: Big bounce back win. Made it the game they wanted. Get crowd involved, tee off on QB & let QB make plays. He was efficient & deliberate. Use of TEs helped. Got the run going a little better than first few weeks. Zone stuff had a better chance. QB design threat has…

    — Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 29, 2025

TENNESSEE: Found a way to get a Conferrnce win on the road. It isn't easy. QB rushed a few things. Made a few really good decisions as things were breaking down. Showed poise climbing pocket. RBs pressed blocks well. Ran physically. TE's made some tough grabs & had a few tough…

    — Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 29, 2025

TEXAS A&M: Strong win. Nice job mixing zone scheme runs with speed/power. RT had a really nice game. Strained in the run game tone extra yards. QB accurate on move. Screen game was good. Got good help n perimeter from TE/WRs. 7 made plays. RBs did a nice job getting upfield but…

    — Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) September 29, 2025

VANDERBILT: Handled their business. QB operated at a high level. Made some high difficulty throws. Took a few risks. Worked the RPO game extremely well. Protection had some leaks. Couple free runners that can't continue. RBs good in pas pro. 28 big time in that dept. mixed run…
