Rory McIlroy came to his wife Erica Stoll's defense on Sunday following the incident where a beer was thrown at her during the Ryder Cup golf tournament.
"Erica's fine, she is a very very strong woman," he said during Sunday night's press conference. "She handled everything this week with class and poise and dignity like she always has and I love her and we're going to have a good time celebrating tonight."

The incident happened on Saturday as the crowds at the iconic golf tournament in New York grew rowdy as Team Europe took as massive lead over Team USA. It was at the press conference following Team Europe's ultimate win, however, when McIlroy's teammate Justin Rose learned about what had happened to Erica.
"I actually had no idea that Erica had a beer thrown at her yesterday," Rose said. "So fair play to Erica, she didn't bring that to the team room we didn't make that a big deal that's news to me...that says a lot about the strength of Erica."
Teammate Shane Lowry, who was present for the incident also mentioned the "unbelievable" way she handled the moment.
"I was out there for two days with Erica McIlroy and the amount of abuse that she received was astonishing," Lowry said of the unrelenting crowds. "The way she was out there supporting her husband and supporting her team was unbelievable and kudos to her for that."

Rory and Erica McIlroy's Relationship
McIlroy and Stoll were married in 2017 in his native country of Ireland.
According to Sports Illustrated, Stoll is from New York and was working for the PGA at the time the two met in 2012 at a Ryder Cup tournament in Illinois. They welcomed their daughter Poppy Kennedy in 2020.
While the two are a united front now, the golf star divorced her in 2024, but announced soon after their separation that they were staying together.
