Sunnyvale’s Department of Public Safety is celebrating its 75th anniversary on Sat., Oct. 4, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at DPS HQ, 700 All America Way.

State of education
Faculty, parents and elected officials from the Sunnyvale School District were well-represented Sept. 20 at the Community Awards presentation, part of the annual State of the City event.
District board president Bridget Watson was selected for the Mayor’s Award of Excellence. Columbia Middle School parent Elsa Nuñez won an award for Contribution to the Arts for her work with Folklórica dance at Columbia Middle School.Christine Penland, an art teacher at Columbia Middle School, named Educator of the Year. Cherry Chase Elementary parent Eric Krock was recognized for Environmental Achievement for his work as an advocate for Greenspace.
“We are delighted that the City of Sunnyvale is recognizing members of the SSD community for their dedication and efforts to advance student success,” said Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite.
The city accepts award nominations from the community year-round. A panel of former Community Award recipients and current board and commission members selects the winners.
