The elections for the open positions on the USA Swimming Board of Directors concluded this afternoon and the House of Delegates members voted the incumbents out of their positions.
Jack Bauerle, Brent Lang, and Kate Lundsten will take over At-Large positions on the board that were previously filled by Clark Hammond and Ira Klein. Bauerle and Lundsten both meet the coach criteria and Lang is a former Olympian.
Despite only two spots belonging to incumbents Klein and Hammond, there was an extra At-Large position open on the board due to Bob Vincent‘s resignation when he took over as USA Swimming’s interim CEO.
Billy Doughty was also elected to take over as the Chair of the National Teem Steering Committee through 2028, taking over Frank Busch‘s position.
The USA Swimming Board of Directors has faced a lot of backlash in the last year, particularly after it took them more than a year to hire a full-time CEO. They announced the new CEO 371 days after former CEO Tim Hinchey’s resignation on September 4th.
In August, SwimSwam endorsed voting the incumbents out, which is exactly what happened in the election.
The voting for the 10-Year Athlete Representative position being vacated by Maya DiRado ended in a tie between Andrew Gemmell and Andrew Seliskar. As a result, the election was reopened and will close at 7 p.m EST tomorrow.
The Athletes’ Advisory Council also received new members with Phoebe Bacon, Gunnar Bentz, Lilly King, and Alex Walsh all being elected.
