Alabama Vs Delta State

September 26th, 2025 Tuscaloosa, Alabama – Alabama Aquatic Center SCY (25 yards) Results Team Scores Men: 230-64 Women: 242-39

Alabama Swimming kicked off their season on Friday in Tuscaloosa with a dual meet against Division II rival Delta State, where Alabama’s swimmers took victory in every event.

    Women’s Meet Recap

The Alabama women put together a promising showing in the 200 medley relay. The team of Emily Jones (24.56), Jada Scott (27.66, 52.22), Gaby Van Brunt (23.88, 1:16.10), and Cadence Vincent (21.56, 1:37.66) registered 1:37.66 to take first.

While the Tide is suffering the loss of All-American Avery Wiseman in the event, they are also seeing the return of three All-Americans in Jones, Scott, and Vincent. Their time from Friday was an improvement from their season opener against Delta State last year, which reflects positively on their chances to climb up the SEC ladder in the event.

Jones, who is a senior, went on to sweep the backstroke events, clocking 54.54 in the 100 and 1:59.07 in the 200. She was followed up by Alabama junior Kate Christian in both events, who went 56.41 and 2:00.21 in the 100 and 200, respectively.

Vincent, a junior, swam the 200 free relay alongside Van Brunt, Sarah Parker, and Charlotte Rosendale, an event which they won in 1:31.90. The 50 freestyle was also taken down by Vincent, who is the Alabama record holder in the long course iteration of the event. She won the event in 22.21, along with the 200 free, which she won in 1:48.12.

Scott took down the 100 breaststroke 200 IM along with the 200 medley relay. She clocked 1:02.04 in the 100 breast and 2:03.04 in the 200 IM.

Alabama junior Victoria Raymond swept the butterfly events, clocking 54.20 in the 100 and 1:59.30 in the 200. Her 200 time was well ahead of what it was around this point last year, 2:02.32.

Stella Watts clocked a time of 10:17.66 in the 100 freestyle, earning the Alabama senior first place and bettering her season-starting time from last year by eleven seconds.

Mackenzie Brandt, a senior at Alabama, took gold in the 500 free. She stopped the clock in 4:54.37, a four-second improvement from her winning time of 4:58.78 at the same meet last year.

    Men’s Meet Recap

Alabama showed depth in the men’s 100 fly, where four swimmers clocked sub-50 swims. The event was won by Senior Tim Korstanje, who is the brother of former NCAA champion and NC State swimmer Nyls Korstanje, in a time of 48.14. Senior Toni Dragoja touched the wall second (49.09), and sophomore Aaron Gasiewicz swam to third (49.60). Junior Zarek Wilson clocked 49.62, but was disqualified from the event

Korstanje also took gold in the 50 freestyle. He touched the wall in 20.03, beating out fellow senior Drayden Bell, who stopped the clock in 20.29. Bell and Korstanje also partook in the 200 free relay, alongside Dragoja and freshman Jonathan Hoole. Hoole (20.32), Korstanje (19.40), Bell (19.47), and Dragoja (20.00) won the event in 1:19.19.

Dragoja, a senior, earned first place in the 100 freestyle, clocking 44.48 to beat out Hoole (45.39).

Alabama Junior Leonardo Alcantara went 9:17.20 in the men’s 1000 free to take first. Alcantara’s personal best, 8:53.60, is the Alabama school record in the event. He was well off of that mark, which he set last January versus Auburn, but was well ahead of his time in the event at the beginning of last season (9:33.59), which indicates he is well poised to improve on his bests this season.

The highest placement by a Delta State swimmer was achieved by sophomore Kacper Mochnal, who clocked 1:52.06 to take second place in the 200 fly. Though a litany of Delta State swimmers earned third-place finishes, Mochnal was their only swimmer to finish higher. The event was won by Alabama’s Aaron Gasiewicz, who stopped the clock in 1:49.70.

Jarret Payne (23.07), Lance Johnson (24.84), Tim Korstanje (20.81), and Jonathan Hoole (19.39) won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:28.11, slightly faster than the mark set by Alabama’s team in their meet versus Delta State last year.

Alabama junior Lance Johnson also took down the 200 breast and 200 IM, clocking 1:59.61 and 1:50.16, respectively. Johnson’s 200 IM time was a three second improvement from this time last year.

Adam Varga, a sophomore at Alabama, clocked 1:39.25 to take first in the 200 free, an improvement from his time at this point last year.

Cole Witmer, a sophomore, swept the backstroke events for Alabama. He started his season within striking distance of his lifetime best in the 100, which is 47.22, by stopping the clock in 48.63. He followed that up by clocking 1:48.02 in the 200.

Alabama sophomore Noah Saylor took the top step in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 54.58. His time is impressively close to his personal best, 53.93 from last season’s SEC Championships, for the beginning of the season.

    Looking Forward

Alabama’s next meet comes on October 10th in Tuscaloosa, where Margo Geer’s squad will face off with SEC powerhouse Texas.
