2025 USA Swimming Foundation & Regional Award Winners Announced

The 2025 USA Swimming Golden Goggle Awards are currently taking place in Denver, Colorado, marking the first time the event has been held in the Mile High City. The awards, hosted by the USA Swimming Foundation, kicked off yesterday with the announcement of foundation and regional awards.

    This evening, the main ceremony will celebrate athletes who competed as part of the USA Swimming National Team over the past year. The event features eight primary categories: Breakout Performer of the Year, Coach of the Year, Perseverance Award, Relay Performance of the Year, Male Race of the Year, Female Race of the Year, Male Athlete of the Year, and Female Athlete of the Year.

    USA Swimming’s Award Descriptions

    The Pinnacle Award, formerly the Kenneth J. Pettigrew Award, is the highest honor given annually to an official whose robust volunteer service spans decades. Recipients of this award have made significant contributions at both the LSC and National levels and exhibit attributes of servant-leadership through work in governance and the highest officiating positions. Selected by the National Officials Committee, the Pinnacle Award is presented each year at the USA Swimming Annual Business Meeting.

    The James (Jimi) Raymond Flowers Coach of the Year Award honors coaches with outstanding inclusion of swimmers with a disability under the nominee’s direct coaching assignment and/or promotion of swimmers with a disability and disability swimming with the nominee’s sphere of influence.

    The Safe Sport Impact Award recognizes significant achievements and contributions to the Safe Sport Committee’s mission to safeguard all members of USA Swimming from sexual, psychological, emotional and physical abuse. Established in 2014, the recipient is selected by the Safe Sport Committee.

    The Adolph Kiefer Safety Commendation Award recognizes an individual or organization demonstrating outstanding commitment to aquatic safety. Established in 1990, the honoree is selected by the Operational Risk Committee.

    The Athletes Distinguished Service Award is given to an Athlete Representative or Athlete Committee Member who has made an impact on the sport. Established in 2017, the honoree is selected by the Athletes’ Executive Committee (AEC).

    The Athletes Appreciation Award recognizes the individual who has made significant contributions to the Athletes Movement. Established in 1983, the honoree is selected by the AEC.

    The Open Water Achievement Award is given to a person or group making the greatest contribution to open water swimming since 1978. The Open Water Committee selects the winner.

    The Developmental Coach of the Year is presented to the coach who put the most athletes under the age of 18 on the National Junior Team and National Team in both pool and open water. The honoree is selected by the Age Group Development Committee.

    Established in 1981, the USA Swimming Award honors exceptional contributions – financial, material or service – to the sport of swimming and to the USA Swimming organization. Selected by past winners, this award is the most prestigious to be given to those who work behind the scenes to support our members.
