OAKLAND — A 63-year-old bicyclist died Friday night after reportedly running through a stop sign and colliding with two vehicles, according to Oakland police.
Police said that around 6:20 p.m. the man, reportedly an Oakland resident, rode his electric bike southbound through a stop sign at 16th Street and Miller Avenue before colliding with a Ford SUV eastbound on 16th. The bicyclist then struck a Honda sedan westbound on 16th, police said.
The bicyclist was reportedly taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.
Police Saturday had not released the victim’s identity, pending notification of the man’s next of kin.
The Ford and Honda drivers remained on scene to cooperate with investigators, police said. It is unclear what damage was sustained by their vehicles.
It is unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
