Legendary Rock Band Celebrates Debut Albums 20th Anniversary With Rare Nostalgic Post

Panic! At The Disco celebrated the 20th anniversary of their iconic debut album, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, on Saturday, September 27, and their rare sentimental post remembering the early days of the band has fans feeling extra nostalgic ahead of their impending reunion show at the When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas.

"A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out turns another year older today (that’s two decades for those keeping score at home)," said the Instagram post, likely penned by frontman Brendon Urie, which also featured the album art from the band's debut album. "It started when four kids skipped their high school graduation, piled into a van, and drove from Vegas to Maryland to turn a dream into a record."

"Finishing the album alone felt like a victory, and no one knew if anyone would listen," continued the message. "The fact that you’re still pressing play all these years later is something else entirely. Thank you." also promised that "A proper celebration" featuring "anniversary box sets packed with memories and more" was on the way.

"Sit tight, I’m going to need you to keep time," it concluded — a nod to their song "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage" from the original album.

Fans were thrilled to see a new post on the account, which has been dormant for years besides the When We Were Young announcement. "I'M SHAKING IN MY BOOTS GENUINELY," one fan wrote, with another adding, "I’d say it’s Time to Dance," and a third saying, "I wish the band would come back together and do an anniversary tour with Ryan, Spencer, Jon, and Brendon."

The debut album, whose hit single "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" went quadruple-platinum in June 2023, featured Urie, who was recruited as singer by his high school friends, guitarist and songwriter Ryan Ross, Spencer Smith on drums, and Brent Wilson on bass. Wilson was fired following their very first tour and replaced with Jon Walker for the second album, Pretty. Odd.

Pretty. Odd., an album that could be described as indie folk rock with a '60s-'70s vibe, was dramatically different from the band's emo/baroque-pop, electronica-based first album, and Ross and Walker enjoyed the new sound so much that they decided to leave the skyrocketing band to start a new one called The Young Veins in 2009. That left Urie and Smith as the only remaining founding members, who brought in Dallon Weekes as the new bassist.

The trio went on to record and release albums Vices & Virtues in 2011 and Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! in 2013. Smith left the band informally in 2013 and officially in 2015, and Weekes transitioned to solely a touring guitarist in 2015, leaving for good in 2017.

When did Panic! At The Disco Break Up?

From 2015 on, Panic! At The Disco became Urie's solo project, under which he created albums Death of a Bachelor in 2016, Pray for the Wicked in 2018, and Viva Las Vengeance in 2022 before announcing the end of the project in January 2023.

“Sometimes a journey must end for a new one to begin," he shared while revealing he and his wife, Sarah Urie, were expecting their first child together. "I am going to bring this chapter of my life to an end and put my focus and energy on my family, and with that, Panic! At The Disco will be no more.”

What to expect from Panic! At The Disco's When We Were Young Reunion Show

P!ATD's reunion show at WWWY was announced in October 2024 and has been heavily anticipated. "Ladies and gentlemen, we proudly present a picaresque score of passing fancy… Panic! returns home to Las Vegas for one special night at @whenwewereyoungfest to perform the album in its entirety (along with some of your other favorite Panic! At The Disco songs)," said the post. A second night was later added.

While fans are excited to hear the album from front to back, which hasn't happened since its original tour, they're most desperate to know what the band's lineup will look like. Many hoped to see the group's original musicians, especially Ross, who recently resurfaced in February 2025 to perform in a Los Angeles Fire Relief show alongside Phantom Planet and Weekes.

"Who is WE though!!??" one fan asked in the comments of the announcement, with another saying, "The people want Ryan!" A third added, "Don't pmo, Brendon. We don't want AFYCSO without Ryan." Meanwhile, many were happy to have any reunion at all, writing, "So happy to see you performing again!"

Many fans were also hoping to hear songs off Pretty. Odd., which haven't been played live in over a decade.
