One critically injured, suspect arrested in shooting near SF Main Library

(KRON) -- A suspect is in custody after a shooting Friday afternoon in the city's Civic Center neighborhood left one person critically injured.

The San Francisco Police Department confirmed there is no active threat to the public.

    SFPD said officers responded to the incident at 4:51 p.m. in the area of Larkin and Grove streets near San Francisco's Main Library location.

    A victim found at the scene suffering from an apparent gunshot wound was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said in a statement to KRON4.

    Emergency crews cleared the area just after 7:30 p.m., according to the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management.

    "Through the course of the investigation, the suspect was located by officers and has been taken into custody," said police in a statement to KRON4. "Due to ongoing investigation, we are not identifying the suspect at this time. The arrest charges are pending."

    The motive and circumstances behind the shooting are being probed.
