Professional golfer and PGA Tour winner Jake Knapp's girlfriend Makena White has died at the age of 28.
The news of her death was announced by a friend via White's Instagram account on Friday, Sept. 26.
"Hi everyone - this is Makena’s friend, writing with the heaviest heart to share that Makena passed away earlier this week. She is already so deeply missed by her Dad, her family, her friends, and of course by Nelly and Fergie," the post began.
"Makena was one of a kind. She had this rare way of making you feel special, and her huge heart was always overflowing with love," it continued. "To be loved by Makena was a gift; one that came with endless laughter, so much joy, and a healthy sprinkling of chaos as we tried to keep up with her travel schedule."
The friend encouraged followers to honor White by donating to Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic or the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund.
White's mother Crystal started going to the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic in 2018 and was eventually diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. The Griffin Bell Endowment Fund was created by Tamy and Evan Bell to honor their son who passed away from cancer in 2024.
"We love you Mak. We’ll miss you always, and we’ll be looking for you in the sunset ?," the post concluded.
White's cause of death is unconfirmed.
The last post White shared before her death was a tribute to Knapp, whom she began dating in August 2023, "Year 2 of first fairway hugs & watching you live out your dreams ?? Second season in the books — forever grateful to be on this walk with you, here’s to many many many more," she wrote over a photo of herself with her boyfriend. "I looooove you sweet boy, you make it so dang easy to be proud ?."
Knapp has been a professional golfer since 2016, winning his first PGA Tour at the Mexican Open in February 2024.
