Most weather models show what will likely be Tropical Cyclone Imelda coming right through the Carolinas. Heres what we know

NORTH CAROLINA (PINPOINT WEATHER) -- The Carolinas could have a landfalling tropical system early next week. There is A LOT of uncertainty with next week's forecast as weather models are still trending back and forth with the details.

Most weather models bring what will likely be Tropical Cyclone Imelda right through the Carolinas. However, there are still weather model trends that try to keep Imelda more east or even offshore.

Some weather models yesterday were spitting out 12+ inches of rainfall for next week, which would be a biblical amount of rain.

While weather models for Friday morning are more in that 4 to 7-inch range. This is why there is no reason to be alarmed right now.

As of Friday morning, the Weather Prediction Center has the Charlotte region around the 3-5 inches range, but that could change.

    Here's the main takeaway:

There is a chance we could have flooding issues through mid-next week and possibly more impacts depending on weather model trends.

The forecast will likely become clearer this weekend when the storm actually forms, and hurricane hunters can give weather models more of a base.

The tricky part of next week's weather setup is that two tropical systems will be very close to each other in the western Atlantic.

Hurricane Humberto is just northwest of what will be Imelda. This could allow the two storms to interact and possibly pull Imelda away from the region. This interaction between two tropical systems is RARE, and it is referred to as the Fujiwhara effect.

If the two storms are further apart, Imelda will not have that interaction with Humberto and could make landfall. More details through the weekend. The key point is not to panic. A lot can change this weekend for early next week's forecast.
