The Dallas Cowboys’ Monday Night Football clash against the Green Bay Packers has no shortage of storylines.
Former Cowboys star Micah Parsons has been doing his best to promote the game and has even elicited a response from Dallas QB Dak Prescott.
Ahead of Monday’s game, Packers pass rusher Parsons said it would be “painful” to sack his former teammate Prescott.
“I hope it’s not [painful] for me,” Prescott said on Thursday in response.
“And I hope he doesn’t get to me, for one.”
It was only weeks ago that Parsons was still a Cowboys player and was embroiled in an offseason-long standoff with owner Jerry Jones over a contract extension.
That standoff resulted in a war of words between Parsons’ agent and Jones, along with several public statements by Parsons which included a trade request.
Parson’s time in Dallas ultimately ended and he was traded to the Packers on Aug.28.
Prescott responds to Parsons’ sack claim
Unsurprisingly, Prescott was asked about Parsons’s remarks ahead of the game, and the $240 million quarterback didn’t hide his excitement about going up against his former peer.
“It’ll definitely be fun,” Prescott said.
“Yeah, it’s one me and my fiancée were just talking about the other day and just all the reps of practice, going against Micah in times when he couldn’t hit me, whether him getting back there.
“Just the trash talk back and forth, me telling him he wouldn’t tackle me anyways, he still can’t bring me down. You got to get to that point.
Parsons has enjoyed a strong start to life in WisconsinGETTY Parsons admitted it’s going to be an emotional reunion“Just getting to go out there and compete with a guy that’s a good friend, that I’ve competed with in numbers of ways throughout this building, outside of this building.
“Yeah, just excited to go and have that matchup. But he’s got five guys up front, plus tight ends and running backs that he’s got to get through. Then we’ll worry about if he can get to me.”
Could Parsons sack Prescott?
Parsons’ quest to sack Prescott will be easier now that the Cowboys will be without their starting offensive linemen in right guard Tyler Booker and center Cooper Beebe.
However, Prescott did a defiant figure when asked about the absence of his two protectors.
“It takes all of us to protect, myself included,” Prescott, who has been sacked just five times in three games so far, said.
“We all know that. Nothing changes this week. He’s a helluva player. We respect that, and he’ll have some attention.”
Prescott will also be without his best offensive weapon, CeeDee Lamb, who is out with an ankle sprain and is expected to miss several weeks.
While Prescott entertained the magnitude of the NFC clash, he also played down the focus on him and Parsons.
This is not the “Dak v Micah” game he told reporters before saying, “Those are never the headlines and never can be.”
“This is Dallas Cowboys vs. the Green Bay Packers, and we’ve got to go get a win.”
