(KRON) -- A driver who fled from a traffic enforcement stop along Highway 1 south of Pacifica sparked an ongoing manhunt Thursday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Authorities first alerted the community to their investigation at 9:50 a.m.
Sheriff's deputies spotted the driver, who authorities said has an active arrest warrant from another local agency, traveling on Highway 1 and initiated the traffic stop. After the driver fled, the suspect's vehicle was found abandoned on Highway 1 near Gray Whale Cove State Beach.
"The suspect is believed to have fled the area on foot," the sheriff's office said in an update at 11:50 a.m. "The Sheriff's Office conducted a significant search of the area including K-9s and drones."
