Greeley-Evans School District 6 is accepting applications for its Discover District 6 Academy, which is a monthly program through the school year for community members to learn more about the district.
Seven two-hour sessions will be held Thursdays from October through April at different sites in the district. The programs will be held 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and lunch will be provided.

A maximum of 25 people will be accepted into the program. Applications must be submitted by 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6. The first meeting is Oct. 23 at the District 6 Administration building, 1025 9th Ave. in Greeley.
District 6 wants to strengthen relationships across the community, give participants knowledge and understanding they can share, create support and opportunities for students and enhance public participation in committees, task forces and elected offices.
Topics covered in the academy include:
How schools are financed and where money is spent. Elementary literacy and how students learn to read. Focus schools and programs in District 6. Graduation initiative and graduation rates. Career pathways and college preparation. Special education services. Safety and security.District 6 operations, including transportation, food services, human resources and technology.
Academy participants upon completion of the program will: have a clear understanding of the District 6 strategic plan and how it’s implemented; receive an overview of the daily operations of the district and its schools; understand support services the district provides to students and families; understand how the district is financed and how money is spent in schools and operations; know the focus areas of the system, understand career and college readiness, and know about efforts to improve student achievement at different levels and understand opportunities for students.
