Matt Fitzpatrick served up an ominous sign of what may be to come after American fans heckled him during Ryder Cup practice.
The Team Europe star instantly found himself the target for the partisan home crowd after his early struggles on Bethpage Black.
During Wednesday’s practice round, the Englishman was captured on video fighting to chip onto the green from the rough.
Before taking a shot, Fitzpatrick was attempting to concentrate on his swing to the tune of American fans making sarcastic comments.
One supporter could be heard saying: “Ohh, backwards shot, I should try that – That’s why I shoot a 97!” right before the golfer stepped up.
Much to the delight of the watching American fans, Fitzpatrick’s first chip was a wayward shot to the left that fell just shy of the green.
In the video – which was captioned ‘D1 Trollers’ – one of the home crowd could be heard saying: “Fitzy, what’s going on here, brother?”.
Another mockingly shouted out: “The green’s that way, brother!”
To add insult to injury, Fitzpatrick’s second attempt was even worse as he took up a chunk of grass with a shorter chip than his first.
The two American fans’ voices then sounded more delighted, as one repeated in a louder cackle: “YO FITZY, WHAT’S GOING ON?”
After his two failed shots, Fitzpatrick whipped around and grinned at the fans, who were standing just a few feet away.
The viral footage is an early indicator that the American crowd will likely have a big impact when Team Europe’s stars take to the course.

Ryder Cup legend Ian Poulter has already dished out his fair share towards USA golf fans, saying he’d love to ‘taser’ them.
In an interview with SPORTbible alongside Tyrrell Hatton, Poulter was asked if US fans were better than their European counterparts.
He strongly disagreed before ranting: “I don’t even know where to start. There’s no… I mean… f****** mashed potatoes and all that f****** b******* that you hear is madness.
“Get in the hole, get in the hole! It’s a 600-yard par 5, you f****** idiot.
“I actually just want to borrow the taser [from] the security guard, just to let one go per hole would be amazing.

“I’m not completely dissing the American fans because the atmosphere in America is amazing.”
Morikawa calls on crowds to cause chaos
Unfortunately for Poulter, it’s far more likely fans in New York will take more heed of the assessment delivered by Collin Morikawa.
The Team USA star said: “I’ll be honest, I think it’s kind of tame so far, Tuesday and Wednesday.
“I know tomorrow is going to be pretty bad, but I hope Friday is just absolute chaos.
“I’m all for it. I think it feeds into who we are and the American players and the American team. We want it.”
