Robert De Niro Sends a Clear Message About Jimmy Kimmel Live! Suspension During Shows Return

Robert De Niro sent a clear message during the return of Jimmy Kimmel Live! after ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show following his remarks after Charlie Kirk's death.

On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Jimmy Kimmel Live! returned to TV in most of the nation. Following a tearful statement from Kimmel during his opening monologue, De Niro played an over-the-top mobster version of FCC chair Brandon Carrin a bold skit.

For the bit, Kimmel asked "Carr" aka De Niro, "You were appointed FCC chairman by Donald Trump?" De Niro replied, "Sir Trump, yes. I used to do some work for a man here and there in Atlantic City."

"But did I just hear you on the phone threatening Whoopi Goldberg?" Kimmel inquired in a follow-up question.

"No, I would never threaten Ms. Goldstein. I was just teaching her a lesson about consequences," De Niro, as Carr, responded.

After Kimmel pointed out that it seemed the FCC was using "mob tactics to suppress free speech," De Niro demanded, "What the f--k did you just say to me?"

The late-night host then warned him that he couldn't curse or he would be fined by the FCC, to which De Niro declared, "I am the f--king FCC, I can f--king say whatever the f--k I want."

Although Kimmel persisted in saying it sounded "a little like threats and intimidation to me" and was a "violation of free speech," De Niro, as Carr, pointed out that free speech "ain't free no more." He then announced, "We're charging by the word now."

When Kimmel asked how much the FCC is charging, De Niro explained, "Depends on what you want to say. Like you want to say something nice about the president's beautiful thick yellow hair and how he can do his makeup better than any broad, that's free."

He continued, "But if you want to do a joke, like he's so fat he needs two seats on the Epstein jet, that's going to cost you."

Kimmel asked how much that joke would cost, to which De Niro responded, "A couple of fingers, maybe a tooth."

After joking that the FCC's new motto is "Sticks and stones may break your bones," De Niro subtly shaded President Trump's unfounded claim about acetaminophen use causing autism.

"Look, I gotta go," he told Kimmel. "A couple of cases of Tylenol fell off a truck, and now I got to figure out how to put autism in them."
