The Blackhawks are off today, which seems like a necessary break for some of the guys. AJ Spellacy hasn’t practiced with the guys yet because of a shoulder issue he brought home from the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase. Teuvo Teräväinen was a scratch from practice yesterday for maintenance purposes. Landon Slaggert and Brett Seney are a little banged up as well and have missed the last couple days. So, yeah. Let’s take a day to rest. They’ve earned it after a tough week to start camp.

— Bleacher Nation Blackhawks (@BN_Blackhawks) September 24, 2025The last three years, Blackhawks preseason woes have foretold of regular-season struggles ahead. So the 2025 preseason might actually tell us something — and tonight wasn't a great start.Postgame notebook: t.co/j7HR4FVeLk
— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) September 24, 2025 Jack Pridham (Kitchener) and Marek Vanacker (Brantford) had their bags packed to return to their respective junior clubs after the game last night. Scott Powers wrote about eight players he’s watching fight for roster spots before the game last night, and most of them were involved in the game. Oliver Moore and Ryan Greene might be in the Slaggert/Nazar camp of “start in Rockford and dominate and we’ll bring you back.” On the other hand, Reichel and Colton Dach are at a point where they need to win a spot and take it for good. There aren’t many roster spots available so these battles might go until they board a plane for Florida next weekend.Eight Blackhawks I’ll be watching as preseason games start tonight ⤵️ t.co/i3xIpF3P5y
— Scott Powers (@ByScottPowers) September 23, 2025 Fascinating read here from Pierre LeBrun at The Athletic on how Canada is working to build their rosters for the upcoming Olympics. Here’s what Canada’s GM Doug Armstrong had to say about Connor Bedard and Macklin Celebrini’s chances of making the cut:“No, they’re top players,” Armstrong said. “Celebrini, quite honestly, reminds me a bit of Drew Doughty (at the 2010 Olympics). He played that year in the NHL, went to worlds, wasn’t really on the radar for the Olympic team, but all of a sudden had a great start and makes the Olympic team. Celebrini was very, very good last year in a difficult situation. He went to worlds, and he was rubbing shoulders with Crosby and MacKinnon. His skill level and hockey IQ was at the area where these two guys felt playing with him would benefit their game. That’s a hell of a statement. …
“Everyone knows [Bedard’s] resume,” Armstrong said. “He’s a driven individual. If he pops this year … and I mean, he’s going to pop (at some point), but if he pops right out of the gate…’’

— Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) September 23, 2025 Jonathan Toews played for the Jets last night. He had a letter on his chest — an A this time. Not sure this is going to feel okay for a while… but I’m happy he’s back and happy in his home town.Jonathan Toews rocking an 'A' in his new threads ✈️ pic.twitter.com/RsfsTqEmMM
